HACIENDA DEL MAÍZ
Where we are, what we do.
Situated in a privileged location in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, the property is just 45 minutes from Cusco and 5 minutes from Pisac. Hacienda Sarapampa offers visitors a unique cultural experience of traditions associated with corn production in an authentic, natural environment.
The history of the Sacred Valley.
On a tour around the hacienda, the visitor will appreciate that the development of the haciendas in the Sacred Valley was primarily for agriculture, focusing on the production of corn, potatoes, and other crops. The farms conditioned the social and political life in Cusco in the 16th century. During the 18th century, large estates, or haciendas, were formed, and they were dismembered during the Agrarian Reform in the 20th century.
The family and the Giant White Cusco corn.
Hacienda Sarapampa has over 3,000 m2 of green areas and spaces for exclusive events, in perfect communion with agricultural traditions, creating a unique experience in an unforgettable setting. Dedicated to agricultural production for three generations, Hacienda Sarapampa is a family business that focuses primarily on the production of Giant White Corn. This is a unique corn variety characterized by its extraordinary size, which grows only within the boundaries of the Sacred Valley of Cusco. It was adapted to its specific conditions after an outstanding job of varietal selection during the Inca Empire. Little is known about the origins of this variety; however, it is a silent witness to the immense knowledge on agriculture reached by the ancient Peruvians.
Learning and enjoyment.
Hacienda Sarapampa wants to share the experience of Giant White Corn production with you and show you why it is so special. We will take you through the entire production process from cultivation to trade in the international market. Giant White Corn has transformed the local economy over the last 100 years, and each year is a new challenge for farmers who are dedicated to its production. Some of the challenges include climate change and finding a way to bridge old agricultural traditions and new technologies. The Giant White Corn is a legacy that is ours by right. We feel a deep responsibility to preserve and seek its continuous improvement for future generations of farmers.
Hacienda Sarapampa also has adequate space for events such as weddings, large-group lunches, and corporate gatherings. What better way to enjoy them than to be surrounded by a place steeped in history? Hacienda Sarapampa is not a hotel or a restaurant. We are an operational farm where you can experience a unique cultural experience first-hand. We hope you visit us soon.
